What is a mononucleotide?
A mononucleotide is a type of biological molecule.
Mononucleotides are composed of 3 things :
1) A pentose sugar (pentose meaning a sugar with 5 carbon atoms).
2) A nitrogen-containing organic base (or a nitrogenous base).
3) A phosphate group.
Mononucleotides are monomers (smaller units) that make up DNA and RNA.
